About This Project
Purpose
Acknowledging Country is an educational resource designed to help people in Australia understand and acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land they live, work, and travel on. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have cared for this continent for over 65,000 years — the longest continuous civilisation on Earth.
This app aims to foster awareness, respect, and reconciliation by making it easy to learn about Aboriginal nations, their history, cultural practices, and ongoing connection to Country.
Important Disclaimer
The territorial boundaries shown in this app are approximate and are sourced primarily from Native Land Digital. These boundaries do not represent official or legal land claims, and may not reflect the views of all Traditional Owners.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations' territories overlapped, shifted, and were shared in complex ways. The simplified boundaries shown here cannot capture this full complexity. Always consult local Traditional Owners and land councils for authoritative information about specific areas.
